PAM - authentication in the UNIX world

Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM) is a generic framework for authentication. First designed and implemented by SUN for Solaris 2.6 the framework is implemented numerious times for many UNIX and UNIX like operating systems including Linux, FreeBSD, AIX, and Mac OS X.
The tutorial will provide a general introduction to PAM aimed for UNIX systems administrators. The tutorial is biased towords Linux PAM but examples can easily be adapted to other implementations.
Kenneth Geisshirt has been using UNIX for almost 17
years, and since 1992 Linux has been his favorite operating system.
Trained as a chemists, today he is a freelance consultant and writer.
