7 Years in the Spam-Wars Trenches. Lessons Learned
With David Schweikert
Are you also plagued by these stock-tip gifs? Spammers are getting increasingly clever and it is becoming very hard to keep the inboxes of your users spam-free. It's a never ending arms race and it has forced us, system administrators, to continously try out new techniques in desperate attempts to fight back. SPF, RBL, URIBL, OCR, bayes, ... you name it. What to use?
In this talk I will give an overview about current spam-fighting techniques and tell you recommendations on how to find a balance between anti-spam effectiveness and reliability of the mail service. Finally, I will give you some more detail about greylisting and draw my conclusions after after 3 years of usage.
