Open Economy and You
With James Callaghan, Alliances Manager, Ingres Europe Ltd
Economic forces are driving change throughout mature
enterprise software markets, and this change is exemplified by the
disruptive success of open source technology.
Open source overturns the established software licensing model and improves the way that
software is created, maintained and supported.
In this session, Ingres Corporation's Jim Callaghan will examine the market forces transforming the once-stagnant database market, and why enterprises are aggressively adopting open source technology and services, beyond the Linux operating system, for critical components of their IT architecture.
Jim Callaghan will demonstrate how open source software advances business productivity, ensuring that customer-driven innovations are implemented to meet business needs, and making unnecessary feature bloat a thing of the past. Highlighting ground-breaking new service models, projects and collaborations, Jim will show how open source innovators are working together to deliver solutions that were impossible in a closed source world.
Jim Callaghan joined Ingres Europe in February 2006 following the divestiture of the Ingres product set by CA. In his current role, he works with existing Ingres partners and promotes the product set amongst prospective new ISVs and resellers. He was instrumental in helping the partner base to transition smoothly to Ingres Corporation. Jim is a regular speaker at a variety of client gatherings, user groups, industry events and conferences around the globe.
Before joining Ingres Europe, Jim held a variety of positions in Product Management, Product Marketing and Pre-Sales with CA (formerly Computer Associates) primarily with Ingres as well as various application development tools. He has worked in the IT industry for almost thirty years with both end user and vendor organisations, having made the transition from production engineering. Jim holds diplomas in Mechanical and Production Engineering gained whilst working in the aircraft industry.
