Designing Cluster File Systems for High Performance Computing

Linux is being deployed more and more in the area of High Performance Computational

Clusters. Generally, the focus of attention in these deployments is the computational performance that can be applied by the multiple CPU's within the cluster. As the number of CPU's rises, so the design of the systems I/O system becomes more and more important to overall throughput.

In this session we will explore the design choices of an I/O subsystem, which includes the storage, Interconnects, and the parallel file systems. The next generation of the I/O components will also be discussed, with a few viable architectures.
