Was Mozilla Open-Sourced for the Right Reasons?

Wrong reason: Retain market share
Microsoft was creaming Netscape in the browser war
Had to open the source to get users?

Wrong reason: Get free labor
All of those Linux geeks need a browser, right?
Maybe they'll help us hack it (for free)

Netscape gets the benefit and credit
Unless Mozilla hackers are getting stock options...

Same problem applies to SCSL
SCSL lets companies share bug fixes
But doesn't get a community of hackers "excited" about anything
