  • Language: English
  • Duration: 45 minutes

In spring 2000, KDE 2.0 will be released. This is almost a complete rewrite of KDE 1.x with many interesting new features as well as improved implementations. In my talk, I will demonstrate some of the new features including KDE's office suite KOffice, talk about the changes made and the reasons behind them as well as give some details about KDE as a programming environment, including the new architecture Canossa/KParts and the new communication protocol DCOP.

Prerequisites

  • Some exposure to any desktop system (including Windows or Macintosh) for the user part
  • Some programming knowledge (preferably GUI programming) for the technical part

Kalle Dalheimer

A native German, Kalle has recently emigrated into the deep forests of Värmland (Sweden) where he is President and CEO of Klarälvdalens Datakonsult AB, a company specializing in cross-platform software development (with an emphasis on porting from Windows to Linux), developer training, and technical documentation. Kalle is one of the founding members of the KDE project where he works as part-time library maintainer, KOffice developer and almost-full-time evangelist. He wrote several books for O'Reilly & Associates, among others "Programming with Qt" and the third edition of the well-known "Running Linux" (together with Matt).
