KDE - The Next Generation

In spring 2000, KDE 2.0 will be released. This is almost a complete
rewrite of KDE 1.x with many interesting new features as well as improved
implementations. In my talk, I will demonstrate some of the new features
including KDE's office suite KOffice, talk about the changes made and the
reasons behind them as well as give some details about KDE as a programming
environment, including the new architecture Canossa/KParts and the new
communication protocol DCOP.
Prerequisites
- Some exposure to any desktop system (including
Windows or Macintosh) for the user part
- Some programming knowledge (preferably GUI programming) for the
technical part
Kalle Dalheimer

A native German, Kalle has recently emigrated into the deep forests of
Värmland (Sweden) where he is President and CEO of Klarälvdalens
Datakonsult AB, a company specializing in cross-platform software
development (with an emphasis on porting from Windows to Linux), developer
training, and technical documentation. Kalle is one of the founding members
of the KDE project where he works as part-time library maintainer, KOffice
developer and almost-full-time evangelist. He wrote several books for
O'Reilly & Associates, among others "Programming with Qt" and the third
edition of the well-known "Running Linux" (together with Matt).
