Kalle Dalheimer
Programming with Linux
Slides from the talk
- Language: English
- Duration: 45 minutes
- Level: b
Developers switching (even partially) from Windows to Linux face a
completely different world. Not only are the development tools different,
but the philosophy itself is different, too. In my talk, I will present
some of the options (languages, tools, environments, libraries) that Linux
developers have for their development work, try to give an impression of
the mindset of many Linux developers and talk (shortly) about whether you
should release your software as Open Source Software or not.
Prerequisites
- Some exposure to Linux as a user
- Some programming experience on any platform
- Willingness to learn about new things
Kalle Dalheimer

A native German, Kalle has recently emigrated into the deep forests of
Värmland (Sweden) where he is President and CEO of Klarälvdalens
Datakonsult AB, a company specializing in cross-platform software
development (with an emphasis on porting from Windows to Linux), developer
training, and technical documentation. Kalle is one of the founding members
of the KDE project where he works as part-time library maintainer, KOffice
developer and almost-full-time evangelist. He wrote several books for
O'Reilly & Associates, among others "Programming with Qt" and the third
edition of the well-known "Running Linux" (together with Matt).
